15 Teacher Staples

15 teacher staples

I’m excited to finally share my 15 Teacher Staples with you. I hesitated to call this a “Capsule wardrobe” because there are definitely other pieces you will probably want to have, but there are 15 items that I think would give you a great start. And they are of course not limited to teachers, these pieces would be great for any working individual!

So what were my qualifications for these pieces? 2 things! Most importantly, they had to be comfortable! And they had to be versatile. You can mix and match almost everything which gives a lot of options to create outfits! Without further ado, here are my 15 Teacher Staples! Below, I will share more ideas on how to style them as well!

This simple black dress is a classic piece and I love that it can be for all seasons! Simply add some layers to take it into fall or winter!
coatigan
This is one of my favorite pieces. It is so warm and can be dressed up or down. It’s such an easy piece to throw over any outfit!
 sweater
A crewneck sweater is perfect for layering and this one in particular is SO soft! Size down, it runs a little oversized.
15 teacher staples - blazer
A blazer is a staple piece that can also be dressed up or down! I’ve had this one for years and it comes in a lot of colors!
15 teacher staples - jean jacket
This jean jacket is another one of my favorites. The pearls are a fun spin on your classic jean jacket and is so versatile!
15 teacher staples - sleeveless blouse
Katie shared a piece like this and talked about how great it is because you can layer it without all of the bulk!
15 teacher staples - graphic tee
A graphic tee is a must. They’re cute with joggers or dressed up under a blazer!
15 teacher staples - ribbed tee
This long sleeve ribbed tee is great worn alone or layered. You can also wear it alone. It’s soft and very comfortable!
We have shared these wide leg jeans before, but when it feels kind of like you’re wearing pajamas, you have to share them again!
15 teacher staples - black jeans
These black jeans have an amazing fit and were some of our favorites from last year, they are just the non-distressed option, which is perfect for school or work!
15 teacher staples - joggers
Joggers are a great option again to dress up or down and these specific joggers come in 3 different colors that would all be great!
15 teacher staples - flats
I love the cut of these flats. I think flats sometimes look frumpy, but these are great because of the shape! Very comfortable and also come in brown!
15 teacher staples - sneakers
A good, comfortable white sneaker is a must! Another piece you can dress up or down.
15 teacher staples - tote
This tote is something we both own and share all the time! My computer fits in it, and it just gives a very professional look!
15 teacher staples - gold hoops
Gold hoops are one of my most worn pairs of earrings and they can be worn with almost anything!

Highlighting a few pieces

Ok, I want to highlight a few pieces and show how I styled them because I really believe everything can work together! There are so many different options. I also want to note that I kept the colors pretty classic and neutral, but most of the pieces come in multiple colors. So if you want a hot pink blazer, or a green coatigan because it’s more your style, GO for it!

The Black Dress

The dress I’m wearing here is from Lulu and no longer sold – boo! But this look can be styled with any simple black dress! We have been loving this dress from Calia. The material is lightweight, flexible and has a stretchy waistband, teacher approved!

Non-distressed Black Jeans

Katie and I both own these jeans in our true size and REGULAR length! They have some stretch which is great and are extremely comfortable! BUT with Express going under, they are not well stocked. Here are a few more styles with availability: these from Levis, these from Madewell, and these from A&F.

Wide Leg Jeans

We have both had these jeans for about a year now and they are so stretchy and comfortable but never lose their shape! We always say that they feel like pajamas. Who doesn’t want that?! Our style is from last year, but I’ve linked the newest version. We also really love these from Madewell! Both are a splurge, but you will want to wear these all the time, trust me! They also look cute with tall ankle boots.

White Sneakers

White sneakers go with almost everything and are a great way to be comfortable while you’re on your feet all day. They’re classic and go with almost everything! I love the combination of a dress and sneaker look. If between sizes, go up a half in these!

Sleeveless White Button Up

Katie shared this Landsend one a year or so ago and it is really the perfect layering piece! You can wear it alone in warmer months, and then layer without the bulk of the sleeves in the winter. It’s perfect. I ordered one from Amazon that is decent quality, but the JCrew one is also great!

15 teacher staples

Well, that’s it ladies! These are 15 pieces I think would be a great addition to your closet for the school year or for work in general. I’m sure I’m missing things, but like I said I wanted to make sure I kept things affordable (everything except the wide leg jeans are under $100) and I wanted everything to go well together. I hope this was helpful and I wish you all the BEST school year yet! If you have kids, we also have a post on our favorite back to school kid suggestions!
