Hey everyone, it’s Melissa (learn more about me here) and I wanted to share a little life update. I feel like we’re friends, and I’ve had some people ask in messages, so I wanted to let you all in on some new things going on in my life! As many of you know, I taught high school Spanish last year. It was my 11th year of teaching and I really enjoyed it. I was happy in my school, my students were great and it was just a really good year of teaching.
Well, in April, I found out that my part time position (I was 80%, which worked really well for my family) was going to full time. With the uncertainty of learning this fall, my daughter’s emotional state, and knowing I’d be full time, I decided it best to not accept the position again. I felt really confident in my decision, but definitely sad at the same time. I just knew it wasn’t right for me at this time in my life.
So what now? I had no plans and was hoping something would work out for me! And boy, did it! Back in April, I did some Telehealth calls with Dr. Henkel from the Family Clinic of Natural Medicine who has really helped me navegate some issues with my daughter. After some conversation and emails back and forth, an amazing opportunity just kind of fell into place. I will be working 10-15 hours per week from home for the Clinic doing their social media and some marketing.
It feels like a true blessing! I’m so excited to be a part of what they are doing in Madison and Dane County! If you’re dealing with anything chronic, natural medicine has so much to offer. Naturopaths have helped me heal from brain fog, allergies, and reflux naturally. They have also helped my daughter tremendously. They have NDs, an MD, RNs and full lab services right in their clinic. It’s really pretty neat and like I said, I love what they are doing!
A little life update number two… ! I have also decided to homeschool my girls this year. Our school district is 100% virtual and after a lot of thought and consideration I decided it would be best for my girls if we just used a curriculum and I worked with them on my own. My goal is to not use technology for school at all (besides a little research maybe). 🙂 Good old paper, pencil and books!
I’ve been a public school teacher for 11 years, like I said, and I believe in public education. I also understand that there are implications from pulling my girls with school funding, but we need to do what’s right for our family. I’m REALLY excited to see what life is like as we let the world be our classroom. I am using a curriculum, but I’m also excited to be able to do more personalized and interest-based learning with them and not feel tied to anything!
I haven’t decided yet how much of our journey I will share yet with it (are you even interested in what we are up to?). But it’s one year and we will see how it goes! Well friends…that’s it for “a little life update”. But I am curious what you are all doing for school this year!
