Today I’m sharing my daughters’ Covid-friendly birthday! 2020 has been quite a year, and has taken a lot of things from us. But I was determined to make this birthday one of their best ones yet! Yesterday, my twins turned 9 (how do I have 9 year olds?!) and we had the best day. We partnered with a few local businesses and saw some friends safely, and it was really fun! I’m going to share what we did, but I will also share some ideas that others shared with us!
Ash and Arrow
Originally, my girls had wanted to have two friends sleep over. We were going to keep it small and let them have Ellis (Katie’s daughter) and Elin (their cousin) spend the night. So when I heard they wanted a sleep over, I immediately thought of Ash and Arrow. You guys, if you aren’t following them. Stop reading right now and head over to Instagram. Alysha and her husband are amazing!
They are a business that brings the party to you and specialize in sleepovers, movie nights, glamping, and they even have outdoor igloos! They do all of the set up and the take down and seriously just make it so easy. So when the new order came out in Dane County, we decided that a sleepover wasn’t the best idea. After a few tears (ok, many tears), we decided that we could still have a sleepover, but it would be a FAMILY sleepover.
Set up
Around 11:45, I sent Brett and the girls out for a walk and to pick up some lunch. Alysha and her husband showed up around noon and had everything completely set up within 40 minutes or so! We moved the furniture in our living room before so they could come and have a wide open space. The whole process was simple. We all wore masks and they both work from home and are the only ones doing the set up. It all felt very safe!
When I asked my girls at the end of the day yesterday what their favorite part of the day was, they didn’t hesitate to say “Ash and Arrow”. The beds are really comfortable and can easily fit adults. Brett is 6’2 and did just fine! So if you’re looking for something fun to do as a family, this is it! I cannot recommend them enough! Oh, and they have some fun holiday themes coming soon. 😉
Scavenger Hunt
After they got set up, I met Brett and the girls out. Earlier in the week, I had written up 6 clues for the girls and dropped them off at different places. Mostly friends’ houses and parks. The girls read the clue and then we would get in the car and drive to that place. If it was a friend’s house, the friend would have the clue waiting for them. They also got small gifts and cards along the way which was so fun for them!
Board and Brush in Mount Horeb
The scavenger hunt wouldn’t have been complete without stopping at Katie’s. The girls wanted to see Ellis! So I made it one of our last stops and it had to be extra special. We had 3 @Home Kits from Board and Brush in Mount Horeb waiting for the girls to do! Katie had the kits and had set up a table outside for the girls to work at. They had the best time and Lindsay from Board and Brush made everything SO easy!
The kits are $25 and everything is included and easy to follow! Whether or not you have a birthday coming up, these are so fun to do with your kids. My girls are going to put these in their rooms.
Covid-friend Birthday
After the scavenger hunt, we came home had pizza, opened presents, had dessert (Ella wanted an ice cream cake and Eva wanted dirt cake!) and watched a movie on our beds from Ash and Arrow in the living room. It was definitely a different kind of birthday, but we made it work! The girls felt special and we were able to be together.
Other ideas
When I polled you ladies, here are some of the other ideas you shared with me to make someone’s birthday special!
- Drive around and friends and family decorate their porches with balloons.
- Chalk art on the driveway
- Birthday yard signs
- Car parades
- Zoom dance party
- Have friends/family send cards.
- Balloon display delivery (Pop Art Sun Prairie was recommended)
- Nerf gun fight
- Make a special treat. (Here are some ideas)
- And many of you said scavenger hunts of different kinds!
If anything, 2020 is making us more creative! We are still doing our best to live over here while also keeping people we love safe. I hope these Covid-friendly birthday ideas were helpful, friends! Please let us know if you have any other fun ideas that I can add to the list.
