Ok, ladies. Here is it, our ‘mostly’ tried and true Wisconsin Winter Outerwear Round Up!!!
So most of our followers are from ‘cold’ states and completely understand our need for warmth over style here in Wisconsin, even though we try the best we can to achieve both. That being said, warmth will always trump style. Am I right? (Also, Texas girls, stay with us. And feel free to laugh a little.)
Katie here. I remember back in the day, at my first job out of college, I worked with the most adorable and fun-loving southern bell named Shannon. She was born and raised in Texas and had a personality just as big as Texas itself. (Loved her!) I remember her saying “Texas women worry about things like big hair and makeup. Y’all just worry about staying warm!” And to that I said, “Amen and welcome to Wisconsin!” 😉
Now here we are, about to embark on the winter of 2020 where we better all get our booties outside as much as possible if we want to survive a covid winter. Are we ready for it? OH HELL NO. Will we give it our all to make the most of it, learn to like outdoor cold weather sports, and try and not freeze?! Yup, we are here for it because we have no other choice!
Apparently, you are all in the market for winter wear b/c we’ve been getting quite a few questions about outerwear and what we suggest. So, we decided to make our #FridayFavorites a Wisconsin Winter Wear Round Up!
Let’s get started!
MELISSA’S:
Coat: I have had this Lands’ End coat for years and years! I’m probably due for a new one, but I just can’t give this one up. I love how warm and comfortable it is! (Side note, Katie currently has a LE coat as well, she owns this one.)
Hat: I talked about this last week in my Friday favorites, but it’s my all time favorite winter hat. Fleece lined and I love the cute little pom!
Snow pants: I think we will all need a good pair of snow pants this winter! We are most likely going to be spending a lot of time outside. Right?! And Lands End is one of our favorite places. Katie worked there for 12 years and we both love their winter gear. For adults and kids!!
Boots: I have had these boots for years and I LOVE them. I honestly feel like winter gear (especially when you live in WI) is worth the money to get something nicer. It’s going to be better quality, keep you warmer and LAST! These boots are really warm, have a great grip for hiking in the snow and are comfortable.
Mittens: These are the only mittens I will wear in the snow! I love them!
KATIE’S:
Coat: Now I do not own this coat. I actually own one from Lands’ End as well (linked above) but I am in the market for a new one and this one is on my wish list! You just can’t go wrong with a Patagonia Parka IMO. It’s an investment, but it’s definitely a necessity in Wisconsin and you will have it for years!
Snow Pants: Ok, so Logan actually bought me a pair of ROXY show pants a few years ago and I LOVE them so much! I love that Roxy gives a little snowboarder swagger to their winter gear! 😉 And these one are high-wasted! Ummm… yes, please.
Boots: I have had these exact Sorel Boots for two winters now and LOVE them! Warm, stylish, just all around good!!
Hat: Now many of us see the oh-so-popular Carhartt beanie floating around IG. They are everywhere and also, very cute! I like this one better. First off, it’s a local (to Wisconsin) brand, one of my BFFs designs for Duluth Trading Company, and this hat is similar to the Carharrt one, but not everyone has it! Maybe it’s just me, but I like having some things that not everyone else has.
Mittens: Again, Logan bought me these! They are Burton brand and they are great! They keep you warm and dry in the snow and they have the Nose Wipe feature!!
Nose Wipe – a soft patch of fabric near the thumb or pointer finger you can wipe a runny nose on (often overlooked, but a very nice added feature in a glove/mitt). Convenient and kind of gross, but clearly superior to digging for tissues with frostbitten digits.
Also, we had a few other items on our wish lists:
This Coat is another good option!
And these Mittens are another good pair from Burton, but a slightly lower price point.
