As many of you saw in our IG stories, we had an amazing Mother’s Day getaway this weekend! When Hotel Indigo reached out to partner, we excitedly said “yes please!” After a long year of being with our immediate family and children more than we ever have before, it was refreshing to just have some time away. We spent the day at Kosa Spa, grabbed drinks at Merchant, dinner at Lucille, and spent the night at Hotel Indigo. Everything was clean, and great precautions were taken to make sure we felt safe!

Kosa – an Ayurvedic Spa
First, we started our day at Kosa – one of the most relaxing spas we’ve ever been to! The attention to detail and relaxation is amazing. We flew in there (late, of course) and very stressed out. Shilpa, the owner, was calming and helped us immediately get settled.
Everything at Kosa is centered around Ayurveda. Rather than a single protocol for wellness, Ayurveda introduces a series of practices that are customized for each individual to proactively instill wellness and prevent or mitigate disease in your body and mind. Before your service, you will fill out a questionnaire to help you determine your dosa – vata, pitta, or kapha. They then create a spa experience, specifically designed for you and your dosha.
We started by getting on robes and slippers. Shilpa brought us hot tea, and then we went to have our facial and Kiss the Earth treatments (explained above). After this, we relaxed in the retreat room and then went to sit in the sauna (20 minutes in a 140 degree sauna), followed by a cold shower to help the detox process. Overall, the entire experience was extremely thoughtful and relaxing and we loved every minute of it!
Hotel Indigo (on East Washington in downtown Madison)
After our afternoon at the spa, we went home to get ready and grab our guys! Next, we went to check in at Hotel Indigo downtown. At only a mile from the capitol and right across from Breese Stevens Field, it’s a great location and walkable to most things! There are so many great restaurants, coffee shops, shops, etc. that are all really close.
Hotel Indigo is now in the old Mautz Paint Co. building. It was designed to reflect the hard-working history of the East Wash corridor and the colorful characters who helped share Madison into what it is today! The hotel features an amazing and eclectic style, full of color and we love how they tie in the fact that it used to be Mautz. I mean look at the reception desk – they are featuring the original Mautz Paint sign!
It is clean, has spacious rooms, floor to ceiling windows, and great views. They also offer complimentary breakfast and room service from Vintage Brewing down the street. Like we mentioned, it is also walkable to many great Madison spots! It makes for the perfect staycation!
Merchant & Lucille
After checking in, we went to grab drinks and an appetizer at Merchant, followed by dinner at Lucille. Both of these restaurants are owned by Rule No. 1 Hospitality Group and are located right next to each other on the corner of S. Pinckney St & E. Doty St. Katie had been to Lucille before, but this was Melissa’s first time! It was delicious! They feature wood-fired pizza, Wisco-Detroit cheddar-crusted black steel pan pizza and artfully crafted Pan-Latin cuisine. Their menu has many gluten-free options as well and the gluten-free pizza crust was delicious!
We started with the nachos, which came highly recommended. Logan, Katie, and Melissa then ordered pizzas and Brett got tacos. Everything was absolutely delicious! They have quite a bit of outdoor seating and the inside, everything is very well spaced out.
Lucille is located in what used to be a bank. In the basement of the building, is the bank vault and Josh, one of the managers took us down to see it! Brett (the engineer) was very impressed with the door. Ha! They host private events down in the vault room and have a small bar down there as well. If you live in Madison or are visiting, and haven’t been to Lucille, you NEED to! Definitely one of our favorites.
Mother’s Day Getaway
If you’re like us and just need some time away, take advantage of these amazing Madison offerings. The hard work has been done for you. Just send this post to your partner and have them take care of it! We both feel rejuvenated and ready to take on the week. We are in a time now were time away is safer and also totally necessary! It doesn’t have to be a week long vacation (although, that would be amazing). One night away can make a huge difference. It’s been a long year, and you deserve this! Even if you aren’t a mom, this is an amazing opportunity! We hope you’ll take advantage of it! We sure loved it!
