It’s the last week of our safe swap challenge and we are here to share our safe swaps for your laundry room! We have been sharing our favorite safe swaps in every room in the house, including the bathroom (face and body), the kitchen and now we are going to dive into the laundry room.
The laundry room is more than just laundry. We will of course hit our favorite safe laundry swaps, but the laundry room is also where I keep most of my cleaning products. So I wanted to share some resources and more natural solutions for cleaning as well.
Laundry
So laundry detergent isn’t exactly a product that we rub on our skin, but it saturates our clothing and then we wear it 24 hours a day. I have friends whose kiddos were having skin issues and their pediatrician recommended switching laundry detergent. It can absolutely be toxic and cause skin issues!
Dryer sheets are also full of chemicals that are not good for your health. If you’re going to clean up everything else, this is one of the easiest swaps to make! We both LOVE Molly’s Suds. I have been using their detergent for a few years now and think it works great. You can grab their stuff at The Healthy Place or on Amazon.

Cleaning
Traditional cleaning products are blends of chemicals that may work well for cleaning but can be harmful to your health, especially your lungs. A study done by Norwegian researchers found that women who regularly cleaned at home or for work had accelerated decline in lung function.
Manufacturers of cleaning products are not required to disclose what goes into their cleaning products, so it’s nearly impossible to know what you are actually touching or breathing in. Check out this full article by Dr. Axe if you want to learn more!
So what should you use instead? Some simple ingredients are just as powerful, get the job done, but won’t harm you. I like to have vinegar, baking soda, hydrogen peroxide, castile soap and essential oils on hand to name a few. Here is a great article that gives you recipes and specifics! I also like Branch Basics and Dr. Bronner’s castile soap concentrate to have on hand too. I also love Norwex cleaning rags. Most of them just require a little bit of water and do a great job!
