This perfect gluten-free apple crisp might be my favorite treat. Especially when apples are in season and the weather is getting cooler outside. It’s right up there with a warm chocolate chip cookie! Are you hungry yet? I’ve been gluten free for about five years now and it took me a while, but I feel like I have perfected the gluten free apple (fruit) crisp. It has just the right amount of sweetness (most apple crisp I have now is way too sweet in my opinion). It also has a crumbly topping that is so simple and free of refined flour and sugar!
Do you pick apples in the fall?
Every year, we are fortunate to get apple from my mother in law who has two large apple trees in her yard. Not only does she make us a dozen jars of fresh apple sauce, but she brings us bags of apples to use! This past summer, Brett and I planted two apple trees (and a cherry tree) in our yard. We hope to someday bless others with apples like my mother in law does for us! We love being able to teach our girls about food and where it comes from. Having fresh, local food is not something that we take for granted.
Ok, so let’s get to the gluten-free apple crisp! You can make this crisp in a pie plate, an 8 x 8 square pan, or you can make it into mini apple crisps, like I did. I think it adorable and everyone gets their own! I found my mini ceramic baking dishes at Michaels craft store on sale. Here is a link to some that are very similar. These mini apple crisps would also make the perfect dessert for your family Thanksgiving. Pair it with a scoop of your favorite ice cream and you’re all set!
